Research topic: Occupational Trauma Psychology, Disaster and Emergency Services work, Employee mental wellbeing
Research interests: For her Doctorate, Jo is undertaking qualitative research exploring the psychosocial, emotional and relational impacts of occupational trauma exposure in English NHS ambulance personnel who have worked on the frontline during the Covid-19 pandemic. In particular, Jo is seeking to investigate how occupational psychological distress features within the NHS ambulance services organisational culture.

Profile
Jo has more than twenty years' experience of working as an operational paramedic and ambulance service manager. She completed two health related undergraduate degrees, and read her Masters in Occupational Trauma Psychology at the University of Nottingham. Jo has since held an appointment as a Senior Lecturer in Paramedicine at the University of the West of England, and is now the National Paramedic Mental Health & Wellbeing Lead for the professions national body; the College of Paramedics. In 2019, she won a Churchill Fellowship, for which she travelled to Australasia to practically study paramedic mental health initiatives and therapeutic supports. For her Doctorate, Jo is undertaking qualitative research exploring the psychosocial, emotional and relational impacts of occupational trauma exposure in English NHS ambulance personnel who have worked on the frontline during the Covid-19 pandemic. In particular, Jo is seeking to investigate how occupational psychological distress features within the NHS ambulance services organisational culture. She is undertaking her Doctorate part-time.
