Profile

Fabian is a doctoral researcher at the School for Business and Society, University of York. His background is in engineering, he holds an MBA degree and pre-PhD worked for two years at a leading management and technology consultancy firm.

My research project contributes to the academic disciplines of international business and strategy by exploring the capability lens in the resource-based view (RBV) context. I focus on how incumbent automakers can build sustained competitive advantages in light of current core themes of the automotive industry: Connectivity, Autonomy, Sharing, and Electrification (CASE). Current capabilities, as well as capability gaps, are explored to draw inferences about strategic decisions for sustained competitive advantages in the current automotive environment characterised by Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity and Ambiguity (VUCA). Research is conducted through quantitative surveys with relevant stakeholders and qualitative in-depth interviews, especially with automotive managers in CASE core functions.
