Research

Overview

Dr Suzanne Couloigner’s PhD thesis explores the interrelated processes of migrating, integrating and identifying during times of turmoil (Brexit). Her research adopts a processual analytical lens, using the concept of sensemaking, to examine how migrant workers develop their unique and idiosyncratic understanding of the macro context. Dr Couloigner’s work is centred around several key topics, including migration, identity, emotions, gender, sensemaking and process-thinking.

Dr Couloigner has also developed a second line of research, focusing on sustainability. She is currently working in collaboration with engineers to explore end-users’ perspectives on the different methods of decarbonising carbon-intensive sectors, such as the food cold chain and aviation. In her work, she adopts actor-centred approaches and subjectivity as lenses, including methodologies like Q-methodology.
