Daniel Muzio is Professor of Management at the University of York and an internationally recognised authority on professional and knowledge-intensive occupations and organisations. His research is widely regarded as field-defining, positioning him among the leading global scholars examining professions, professional service firms, and the governance, ethics, and inequalities associated with expert work.
He has published over 80 research outputs in many of the world’s leading journals across management, organisation studies, sociology, economic geography, and accounting, including Journal of Management Studies, Organization Studies, Human Relations, British Journal of Management, Accounting, Organizations & Society, and Journal of Economic Geography. He is also the author and editor of major scholarly volumes with Oxford University Press and Cambridge University Press. His work has shaped both academic debate and professional practice, and has been featured in outlets such as Harvard Business Review, The Economist, and The Times. He is regularly included in the Stanford–Elsevier list of the world’s top 2% most cited scholars.
He has secured research funding from major national and international bodies, including the ESRC, the European Commission, and the British Academy, as well as professional regulators such as the Legal Services Board and the Solicitors Regulation Authority.
He has served as General Editor of the Journal of Management Studies, he is one of the Founding Editor of the Journal of Professions and Organization, and the Founding Chair of the Organization and Management Editors Network (OMEN), the first professional association dedicated to supporting and representing editors of academic journals. He currently serves as a member of the UK REF 2029 sub-panel (UoA 17 ‘management’) and as one of the REF Leads for the School for Business and Society.
Alongside his research leadership, Professor Muzio is an award-winning doctoral supervisor, an innovative research-led teacher, and a frequent keynote speaker at leading international conferences and doctoral schools worldwide, including the EGOS 2026 PhD Colloquium.

Daniel's research interests include the organisation and management of Professional Services Firms, the sociology of the professions, organizational and professional wrongdoing and diversity, inclusion and equal opportunity.
