Catherine Botting is a lecturer in Leadership and Organisational Change. She joined the School for Business and Society in January 2021.
Before becoming an academic, Catherine had a long corporate career as both a leader in large multinational organisations such as GE and as a consultant working as a Human Capital Consultant for PricewaterhouseCoopers. Subsequently she ran her own consultancy practice for 15 years supporting organisations with transformation, change and leadership development. During that time, she worked with clients as diverse as the United Nations, AT&T and Cadbury.
Catherine still maintains strong industry links and as a result her teaching is grounded in contemporary practice, as well as being rooted in academic theory and research.
Catherine has a particular interest and expertise in organisational change, innovation and consultancy practice. As an executive coach of many years standing, Catherine also brings perspectives on leadership behaviour into her teaching and research.
Catherine began her career as an academic at Leeds Beckett University Business School, moving onto York St John University Business School, before moving across town to join The University of York School for Business and Society.
Catherine’s current research explores the change management capabilities of consultants practicing Agile in organisations.
Catherine is Module Leader for the final year module Leadership in Practice as well as co-leading the second year module Business Planning and Sustainable Entrepreneurship.
Catherine leads the online modules Contemporary Issues in Leadership and Leading Change and Managing Continuity.
