Biography

Hi – I’m Becca and I have lived in York from the age of 2 and a half, having been born in Zambia. I have a learning difficulty and have been involved in the SUPA Group since 2020. I am also the chair of York People First (YPF) and have sat on various committees that sought to improve the position of people with learning difficulties in our society.

I am committed to promoting the voice of people such as myself, in particular calling for information to be made accessible to allow us to make independent decisions about our own lives. I have an honorary degree from York St John’s University, in recognition of the work I have done on behalf of York People First. I also enjoy drama and have been involved in several productions with friends from YPF, which we script ourselves.

I am keen for social work students to understand what life is like for someone with a learning difficulty, and for them to support us in making decisions and living our own lives. I look forward to seeing you in class!
