Professor Bob Doherty and Professor Ruth Banomyong

The aim of this exciting academic partnership with Thammasat Business School is to make academic advancement through institutional collaboration in multiple aspects.

As we are aware globally we are facing many grand challenges. This academic partnership will synergise research excellence, expand international business and policy outlooks and harness professional resources to enhance academic outcomes to tackle these challenges. Both universities share a mission for public good. Thus, the key focuses of the MoU are on research collaboration and faculty and student exchange programmes.

Representing the two Schools were Professor Bob Doherty, Dean, School for Business and Society, and Professor Ruth Banomyong, Dean, Thammasat Business School. Professor Doherty said that:

"We already have many connections with Thammasat University through staff research links and we also share the same mission. We can learn a lot from each other and our MoU officially recognises all the work currently going on and provides a springboard for the future."
On the MoU signing ceremony day, we also had two key honorary guests: Mr Chinnaphan Roekchamnong, Minister of Educational Affairs, representing the Royal Thai Embassy, London and Dr Thammarak Moenjak, Chief Representative of the Bank of Thailand, London office, who joined and witnessed our auspicious event.

After the ceremony we took the opportunity for faculty members from both institutions to present their research under the theme 'Tackling Grand Challenges of Business and Society.' We believe that research outcomes should not only make a theoretical advancement to academia but should also provide practical contributions to societal challenges. In addition to academic staff, Thai government agencies in the UK, PhD students and UK divisions of Thai businesses also attended to provide insights from the perspective of the private and public sectors.
