The event is an opportunity to take part in creative workshops and try out ideas and skills outside of an academic discipline. You’ll get the chance to navigate the future of digital storytelling, explore chapbooks (small booklets made for children) from the University and York Minster’s rare books collections, and get hands-on with cutting-edge technologies.
Participants will work with staff across the Library, Archives and IT to develop skills, discover material, and make digital and physical pieces, before coming together to work in groups to create digital outputs for an exhibition.
Throughout the week, you’ll get the chance to develop digital skills relating to image, audio and video editing, coding and visualisation, augmented and virtual reality, and more. You’ll try out new creative approaches, thinking about themes and stories in new ways through activities and workshops. You’ll look at historical material and techniques in new ways through workshops at York Minster Library, the Borthwick Institute for Archives and the Thin Ice Press, then explore how this content can be reflected, remixed, or reimagined using digital technologies.
Through a combination of practical workshops and independent creation, you will work on individual pieces and collective outputs for the exhibition, using teamwork and problem solving to bring together the work from the week into a final showcase to display to the wider University and public.
Digital Creativity Week 2020 will run from Monday 8 June - Friday 12 June, with an exhibition event on Wednesday 17 June. Each day runs from 9am - 4pm, with a combination of workshops, activities and time to work on your creations.
The week is open to all University of York students. Please complete our online form to apply:
