Willelmus etc dilecto filio domino Henrico Asselyn de Halom capellano salutem gratiam et benedictionem Ex commissa nobis solicitudine ad statum debilitatem domini Radulphi rectoris ecclesie de Hokerton nostre diocesis qui nedum senio et corporis debilitate varia est confractus sed etiam visu oculorum totaliter est privatus adeo quod sufficienter circa administrationem bonorum suorum et ecclesie sue predicte ac regimen animarum neque laborare nec vacare propter ut deberet intuitu convertentes te de cuius circumspectione et fida industria confidimus predicto rectori coadiutorem damus et deputamus ad facienda omnia et singula que ad huius coadiutoris officium debeant pertinere proviso quod de bonis dicti rectoris fidele inventarium facias et rationem plenum nobis reddas cum super hoc fueris debite requisitus. Vale. Datum apud Suwell ii idus Novembris anno gratie millesimo cccmo tricesimo. Et pontificatus nostri quartodecimo.

Translation

William etc to his beloved son, Sir Henry Asselyn of Halam, chaplain, health, grace and benediction. From the care granted to us for the ill state of Sir Ralph, rector of the church of Hockerton in our diocese who is not only old and broken by various bodily ailments but also is completely deprived of his sight so that he can not sufficiently administer his good or those of the aforesaid church or undertake the care of souls as he should, we rely on your circumspection and faithful work, we grant you as conadjutor to the aforesaid rector and we depute you to undertake all and every matter pertaining to the office of coadjutor, providing that you should make a faithful inventory of the good of the said rector and should render to us a full account when ever it is required of you. Farewell. Given at Southwell the second ides of November in the year of grace 1330 and in the fourteenth year of our pontificate.
