About the speaker

Professor Federico Brandalise

Prof. Federico Brandalise is a neuroscientist with expertise in synaptic physiology, dendritic integration, and neuroplasticity.

Federico completed his PhD in neuroscience
at the University of Zurich, Brain Research Institute. He then went on to a postdoctoral fellowship at the Center for Learning and Memory, University of Texas at Austin. The project was titled "Dynamics and Plasticity of Dendritic Signaling in the Prefrontal Cortex of a Fragile X Syndrome Mouse Model". In 2018, Federico then moved to the Department of Fundamental Neuroscience (NEUFO) at the University of Geneva where he studied POM learning-related modulation of active S1 cortical dendrites during a texture-discrimination task.

In 2021, Federico moved to the Department of Bioscience, University of Milan to research the circuits involved in processing synaptic inputs in the hippocampus by using an electrophysiological and imaging approach. In particular, examining the integration of diverse inputs onto CA3 pyramidal cells and how these inputs converge to generate dendritic spikes. He has held academic positions at the University of Cagliari, University of Milan, and research fellowships at institutions in Switzerland and the United States. His work has been recognized with multiple awards, including the 3Brain – Massimo Grattarola Award and the Advanced Postdoc Mobility Fellowship from the Swiss National Science Foundation. His research explores the cellular mechanisms underlying learning, memory, and neurological disorders.
