Prof Rob Newton - interview with a Clinical Epidemiologist

Hear more about Professor Rob Newton's journey as a researcher how he ended up doing the work that he does and what motivates it.

Starting with his medical training and his venture into infectious disease, ultimately Rob works in cancer research. Specifically, clinical epidemiology - the study of  patterns, causes, and effects of health and disease in patient populations and the relationships between exposures or treatments and health outcomes. This interview took place at a multidisciplinary workshop, including epidemiologists, clinicians, social scientists and historians, in Geneva, examining various aspects of cancer in Africa. The focus was on the problems of measuring, diagnosing, manging and preventing the substantial cancer burden on the continent. Rob is one the group leaders at the Centre for Blood Research here at York. He is based in the MRC/UVRI and LSHTM Uganda Research Unit, and his research focuses on infections and cancer, particularly in developing countries.
