About us
The Centre for Blood Research at York (CBR) is at the forefront of a unique opportunity to have real-life impact on people living with haematological malignancies, and add synergistic value to the Universities recognised international strengths in applied health research
Haematological research (study of blood and blood forming tissues) covers a multitude of different conditions including cancer, clotting disorders and chronic benign conditions, and often acts as an exemplar to other medical fields, especially in areas such as transplantation and development of novel therapies. Critically, these breakthroughs in clinical care are often underpinned by fundamental biological and epidemiological research.
Unlike most other cancers, haematological cancers can affect people at any age, from birth through to old age. Our research captures the health experiences of the general population and spans the full spectrum – from disease causes through to their consequences.
CBR covers a wide spectrum of disciplines and disorders, ranging from structural biology to epidemiology in malignant and benign haematological disease and infection-driven secondary haematological conditions.
Our mission is ‘to further our understanding of disease development and to identify new disease biomarkers and therapeutic strategies to improve diagnostic, prognostic and therapeutic benefit to patients'.
We are achieving this goal through connecting a diverse community of researchers and clinical staff and undertaking world-leading research.
