Speaker(s): Professor Sarah Bridle, Professor of Food, Climate and Society, University of York
What was the climate impact of what I ate yesterday ? That was the question that started my journey from Professor of Astrophysics to my recent appointment as Professor of Food, Climate and Society at the University of York. In this interactive talk I'll summarise the evidence for how your food contributes to climate change, share some free resources developed with colleagues Alana Kluckzovski, Katherine Denby and others as part of the Take a Bite out of Climate Change project, and overview some lessons we've learned using these resources with the public. I'll describe our research on how different cooking choices impact the climate, our recent paper on trends in greenhouse gas emissions from food in Brazil, and introduce our new project FixOurFood, about transforming the Yorkshire food system, led by Doherty (York) and Denby. Finally I would like to hear your thoughts on how we, as researchers, can help to turn the current food system into a climate positive contribution to net zero, and beyond.
Location: Online seminar (via Zoom)
