Redox regulation in plant cells and its role in acclimation to environmental stress

Abstract: Understanding the mechanisms that contribute to stress tolerance is vital to future crop productivity.  The effects of environmental stress on the reduction-oxidation (redox) status of the cell exerts control over many aspects of plant biology including local and systemic signalling that ensures coordinated and synchronized responses at the whole plant level. This talk will focus on two aspects of redox regulation: firstly, evidence for a redox cycle within the cell cycle in plants and its perturbation in mutants with low redox buffering capacity, and secondly, the role of the redox state of the apoplast in the acclimation of photosynthesis to changing light intensities.
