Mechanism of ATP and PMF driven protein transport through the bacterial envelope

Monday 14 October 2019, 1.00PM

Speaker(s): Professor Ian Collinson, University of Bristol

My talk will focus on the essential role of the Sec machinery for protein secretion, membrane protein and outer membrane protein (OMP) transport. I will summarise progress made towards our understanding of the mechanism of protein translocation; first of all, across the inner membrane. This will include the molecular basis for ATP and PMF driven protein transport. I will also describe how proteins emerging from the Sec translocon could be transported though the periplasm to the BAM machinery for OMP folding and membrane insertion.
