Abstract: Myeloid cells are key players in initiation of inflammation. Their development and functional activities are orchestrated by networks of transcription factors. Previously we discovered that transcription factor IRF5 plays an important role in shaping inflammatory macrophage phenotype. More recently we observed its essential contribution to neutrophil biology. This makes IRF5 a desirable therapeutic target for inflammatory disorders. We discuss the ways to interfere with its activity.
