Lighting

Lighting quality and levels can affect an individual’s mood, especially those with ‘Seasonal Affective Disorder’ (SAD) who are prone to depression due to lack of sunlight.  It is an issue that can be easily overlooked, but with greater awareness, can relatively easily be addressed.

Measures to help workers with SAD:

  • Several SAD lamps (provide simulated daylight) are available to borrow from Stores for those workers suffering from SAD.  These can be particularly useful in the winter months when exposure to natural sunlight is at its lowest.
  • Improving the quality of lighting in work areas.  Contact Biology Technical Support if you feel that you are working in an area with poor quality lighting that needs improving.
