Risk assessments MUST be reviewed and revised whenever a significant change to the work is planned. It is also best practice for Group Leaders to review assessments at least once every 2 years. A significant change would represent one that increases the overall risk associated with the project e.g. construction of a GMO more hazardous than the one(s) originally assessed (even if the new GMO falls in the same risk class as the original GMO). Revised assessments involving a significant change will require approval by the Safety Advisor (GM Class 1) or Biological Agent Safety Committee (Class 2 or above) before the revised project can proceed.
