Our vibrant and friendly postdoc community regularly meets for networking events (with free coffee, tea and pastries, currently sponsored by ThermoFisher) organised by our Postdoc Society Committee. Postdocs in Biology are valued and integral components of the Department, with postdoc representatives on all departmental committees.
We run a buddy scheme to help new postdocs find their feet. Get in touch via biol-postdoc-society@york.ac.uk, and we’ll arrange for a committee member to meet up with you for a free coffee, chat and help answer any questions.
The Department also runs a mentoring scheme for postdocs. For more details, and to apply or register your interest, please see mentoring for research staff.
Our Department comprises over 90 postdoc staff, along with approximately 150 professional support staff (technical and administrative) and 80 academic and teaching staff. We are the largest academic department at York, with approximately 1100 undergraduates and 160 graduate students. The Department of Biology is an open and welcoming workplace for all staff and we are proud to hold an Athena SWAN Gold award that recognises our inclusive and supportive culture.
