The results of the 2024 National Student Survey have revealed the strengths of the Department of Biology in ‘Academic Support’ and ‘Learning Resources’.

The results of the 2024 National Student Survey have revealed the strengths of the Department of Biology degree programmes, particularly in ‘Academic Support’ and ‘Learning Resources’.

Responses from our students regarding ‘Academic Support’ placed us 1st in the Russell Group in the ‘molecular biology, biophysics and biochemistry’ subject category and 2nd in the Russell Group in the ‘biology (non-specific)’ category. We received high scores for questions including, ‘How easy was it to contact teaching staff when you needed to?‘ and ‘How well have teaching staff supported your learning?

We also placed 2nd in the Russell Group for 'Learning Resources' in the ‘molecular biology, biophysics and biochemistry’ and ‘biology (non-specific)’ subject categories. The questions that received positive responses included, ‘How well have the IT resources and facilities supported your learning?’, ‘How well have the library resources supported your learning?’ and ’How easy is it to access subject-specific resources when you need them?’

Professor James Moir, Head of the Department of Biology, said “these excellent results are a testament to the support our staff offer to students and the fantastic facilities our students have access to, both of which underpin the successful learning community in Biology”.
