This week we confirmed our place among the UK's most highly regarded departments for the study of biosciences. The Department is ranked 6th in the UK in the Guardian University Guide.
Published annually, the Guardian University Guide is aimed specifically at students trying to choose a university course. It ranks UK universities by undergraduate degree subjects in metrics such as student satisfaction, continuation, spend per student and graduate outcomes.
The rankings are based on official data collected by the Higher Education Statistics Agency (HESA) and the National Student Survey.
Head of Department Professor James W B Moir said, "We really care about the education we offer, and throughout the department colleagues work tremendously hard to provide an excellent student experience.
“We aim to inspire our students so they have the skills and knowledge they need for their futures, and it is great that this is reflected in a top ten ranking in the Guardian's influential and well-respected university and course guide."
In total, eight subjects at the University were ranked in the UK top 10: Archaeology and Forensic Science (9th), Biosciences (6th), Chemistry (6th), Film Production and Photography (5th), History of Art (4th), Nursing and Midwifery (6th), Physics (9th) and Psychology (9th).
