Our facilities in the Department of Biology
The Department of Biology at York has some amazing facilities. From our labs to our teaching rooms, there’s a learning space to suit everyone.
The Deborah Smith Teaching Building is the centrepiece for our student community and provides study spaces, teaching laboratories, computer classrooms and flexible learning spaces for workshop teaching.
Study and teaching spaces
There are lots of study spaces around the Department. The Creative Lounge which is well-equipped for individual or group work with comfortable seating, plenty of tables and even a small kitchen. The Think Tank also has a large screen which can be used for presentations. We have learning rooms of various sizes, with flexible setup options for presentations and workshops.
Our large-capacity lecture theatres are tiered to give good views and are fitted with REPLAY technology. This means you can access recordings of lectures after they have occurred, in case you wish to use them for revision purposes.
Teaching laboratories
We have a large number of high-tech labs for practical work, with all the technology and equipment you'll need to carry out your research and experiments. We also have several computer labs with all the relevant software you may need to use, such as RStudio for coding.
