Terry Holmes Composer and Performer Award

This will be awarded both to a postgraduate composer and performer to collaborate in the making of a new piece for both a soloist and ensemble.

  • Funding: £3,000 split between composer and performer, 2 x £750 awarded on allocation and 2 x £750 after performance

While attention should be paid to practicalities, proposals will be welcomed which take an innovative approach to instrumentation. Instrumentation, in this case, may be understood to include voices and electronics as well as any available instrumental forces. The piece proposed may also make critical use of a pre-existing source should make use of at least one of our existing ensembles.

Applicants should outline their plan on a single side of A4 paper. The plan should be realistic and include relevant practical details. The successful applicants will be notified in late November. Successful applicants will be invited to enter into detailed discussion with representatives of the department ensembles, regarding a deadline for delivery of performance material and arrangements for rehearsal.

Eligibility

Open to International (including EU) and UK (home) students.

Open to students in the School of Arts and Creative Technologies.

To be eligible for this scholarship, you must be a current postgraduate student at the University of York.
