Future Voices Scholarship programme
A package of financial and industry support to welcome talented UK undergraduates from Black, Asian, Gypsy, Traveller and ethnically diverse backgrounds to our creative community. This support comprises a bursary of £1,200 per year for three years of the programme, plus targeted mentoring.
The creative industries have stories at their core. We're passionate about supporting ethnically diverse stories to be given a chance to thrive at York. This scholarship was set up to encourage people from a range of cultural backgrounds who wouldn't normally think of York as a place for them.
The awards are designed to ease the financial burden of study. The funds can be used in any way that will assist you practically on the course – including travel, accommodation and living expenses.
Recipients will be offered occasional mentoring sessions with a staff member from the School of Arts and Creative Technologies.
Open to UK (home) students only.
In order to be eligible you must also have an offer for a place on one of the following courses:
- BA Business of the Creative Industries
- BA Music
- BA Music and Sound Recording
- BA Theatre: Writing, Directing and Performance
- BSc Film and Television Production
- BSc Interactive Media
The opportunity is open to offer holders and current first year students, with one award available per programme per year.
Application deadline: Monday 30 September 2024, 11.59pm BST
We have a short application form, which asks:
- What inspired you to apply for this scholarship and your degree, where do you hope them to take you, and what do you want the degree to offer you after graduating?
- What will receiving the scholarship and completing your degree mean to you, your family or your community, and how has your background shaped your ambition to succeed at York?
You may want to prepare your answers before submitting.
We have a panel of selected 'Future Voices Scholarship' staff and students who'll meet and shortlist the eligible students early in the first semester (around the beginning of September). Decisions will then be discussed and decided as to who will be the recipients of the award. You will be informed in the first three weeks of semester one if you are successful.
