Curiosity Mechanism in Games
The interactive nature of gaming inherently fosters engagement between the player and the content, a dynamic that is rich with opportunities for sparking curiosity. Considering that curiosity has been proven to be a vital component in the learning process, the intersection of gaming, curiosity, and learning presents a wide field for examination. My study aims to delve into a gaming mechanism that actively stimulates curiosity via play, thereby enhancing the fundamental motivation to learn and addressing the swift drop in interest often observed following traditional gamification learning experiences. The research is currently in its early stages, and I am focusing on understanding what curiosity is in the context of games and how to stimulate curiosity within gameplay and related issues..
I have crossed professional fields three times from my undergraduate degree to my PhD, starting from electrical engineering to design informatics and now to the field of games. My interests have gradually shifted towards design psychology, and I am more interested in discussing the interaction between design and people, and the application of psychological factors in design.
My main goal now is to try to use the medium of game to counter-promote the development of individual traits, especially curiosity, through systematic design.
