Analysis of the learning expectations and current learning situations of Chinese piano major students at conservatoires in the UK.
Modern conservatories in the UK retain many of the traditions of music apprenticeship, using one-to-one lessons as the baseline form of teaching for performance majors. In recent years, more research has questioned and criticized many of the traditional approaches in the conservatory model and have inspired some new pedagogical approaches that enhance student autonomy and empower students. At the same time, the student population of conservatories is also changing, with more and more Chinese students becoming an important component of the student body. My research will focus on the realization of learning expectations among Chinese piano major students under the influence of various teaching methods in music academies in the UK.
