Barrie Webb read Music at Cambridge University, afterwards studying trombone with Vinko Globokar and conducting with Constantin Bugeanu. He holds the title Professor of Music from the University of Huddersfield, where he was Head of Performance and taught conducting, trombone and composition until 2009. Now a freelance performer and researcher, he has recorded extensively on CD as soloist and conductor, and his performances have been broadcast by numerous radio and television stations.
In 2007 he was guest editor of the Contemporary Music Review, contributing three articles on new music for the trombone. And in 2012 he completed a chapter for inclusion in a book about the work of Constantin Bugeanu.
He was awarded a Leverhulme Fellowship for 2012–2014 to enable further documentation of new trombone repertoire on four CDs.
