James Poole a recent graduate has had his MA dissertation published in Frontiers in Education. James explores the perceptions of dialogic teaching amongst trainee instrumental/vocal teachers.
James Poole, a recent graduate from the MA Music Education: Instrumental and Vocal Teaching programme in the School of Arts and Creative Technologies, has had a version of his MA dissertation published open-access in Frontiers in Education.
The published article (co-authored by James’ MA supervisor, Dr Naomi Norton) details findings from a research project that explored perceptions of dialogic teaching amongst trainee instrumental/vocal teachers. Findings indicate that trainee teachers may benefit from sharing and discussing experiences with peers when learning to use dialogic teaching.
As a result, the teaching team in the School of Arts and Creative Technologies facilitated peer-to-peer discussion sessions on dialogic teaching for trainee teachers enrolled on the MA Music Education: Instrumental and Vocal Teaching programme.
James is now a PhD student at the School (supervised by Dr Naomi Norton) and has been awarded a studentship from the White Rose College of the Arts and Humanities (WRoCAH). He will further investigate dialogic teaching within instrumental/vocal pedagogy.
The full dissertation, 'Investigating trainee instrumental/vocal teachers’ perceptions of dialogic teaching: an exploratory study' can be read on the Frontiers in Education website.
