International Alliance of Arts Management (lAAM) Conference 2024 at University of York (School of Arts and Creative Technologies)
The International Alliance of Arts Management (IAAM) will host its 2024 conference, “Global Opportunities and Challenges in Arts Management Education”, at the University of York from October 31 to November 1, 2024.
This two-day international event will gather leading academics, arts professionals, and practitioners from around the world to explore the evolving landscape of arts management education and address global challenges and opportunities.
IAAM is a globally recognized organization dedicated to advancing arts management through education, collaboration, and innovation. The alliance connects institutions and experts from across the globe, fostering knowledge exchange and shaping the future of arts management. The conference aligns with IAAM’s mission to elevate standards in arts management education, promote international collaboration, and advocate for the arts. This conference is a critical opportunity for academics and professionals to reflect on how arts management education can evolve to meet the demands of a changing world and is being organised by the School of Arts and Creative Technologies at the University of York. Countries participating in the conference include the United States, China, South Korea, France and the UK, showcasing a truly global representation of perspectives on arts management education.
Day 1 will explore the internationalization of arts management education, emphasizing interdisciplinary approaches, business engagement, and community learning. Key topics include policy and governance in arts management, crisis management at cultural venues, and intercultural dialogue. Speakers from China, the United States, and the UK will lead these sessions. Liang Sun, from China’s Central Theatre and Drama Academy, Richard Maloney of New York University together with Marta Herrero of University of York will discuss strategic program design trajectories in arts management education. A practice-based session will engage participants in applying design thinking to heritage technology, tackling real-world challenges in the cultural sector.
Day 2 will focus on the impact of AI on arts management, featuring discussions on AI-driven innovation in music, immersive media, and creative industries. Notable speakers include Dongsoo Lee from South Korea’s Sangmyung University, who will discuss AI’s role in reshaping cultural practices, and Florian Block from the University of York, who will present on AI in cross reality media. Additionally, thematic sessions will examine career pathways in arts management, with contributions from global leaders such as Ling Ding from Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, China, and Anthony Main from the UK, who will share their experiences in community arts and digital innovation.
