Success for Reader Robert Hollingworth and his ensemble, BBC Music Magazine Recording of the Month
Reader in Music Robert Hollingworth and his ensemble I Fagiolini's world premiere recording of a 17th century Roman mass for four choirs by virtually unknown Orazio Benevoli is currently April BBC Music Magazine Recording of the Month. This follows a 5-star review in Gramophone. It is the opening of a series of four premiere albums of surprisingly unknown Roman music of this time which will change our view of multi-choir music and also the way they were performed in Rome.
Also, for Holy Week, Hollingworth's group (founded at university and now nearing its 40th anniversary) has released a new recording of Victoria's Tenebrae Responsories for Holy Week (1585) which restores the piece to the low pitch and voicing intended by the composer. It's currently album of the week on BBC Radio 3's Essential Classics.
Both albums reached the top three of the Specialist Classical Charts (UK).
