Launch of the School of Arts and Creative Technologies
Today sees the formal launch of the School of Arts and Creative Technologies (ACT), which combines the Department of Music and the Department of Theatre, Film, Television and Interactive Media.
The creation of this School, one of three being launched, is a key part of our Change Programme, supporting our vision for York to be a University for public good. Along with Environmental Sustainability at York, it enables us to bring together our collective knowledge and expertise, to create fresh and distinctive new research and teaching opportunities.
Our core subject areas remain the same, but as a single academic entity, we can now work together to develop our academic and research endeavours, building on the successful foundations of our composite parts.
The School will integrate creative practices with cutting-edge teaching, research and external engagement. We’ll combine educational excellence and vocational relevance through our industry links, renowned practitioners and pioneering scholars, and we’ll open up new and exciting fields of study between performance, creativity and technology.
The School will innovatively address the growing remit of the national and international creative industries. Fast-paced developments in digital media, technology and creativity make this the right time to combine forces on projects that will help to shape the future creative economy.
Work has been ongoing over the past few months to bring together the School, and this work will continue in the coming year and beyond.
An official launch event will take place during the 2022/2023 academic year.
We look forward to welcoming you to the new School.
