Angelo Notari: Collected Works, Parts I-III (A-R Editions, Inc., 2022).
The American Musicological Society's judges commented on the work as follows: “This three-volume set makes the full range of Notari’s work available for the first time, drawing on at least 17 printed and manuscript sources. The edition includes many new attributions, as well as tentatively-attributed works and arrangements of music by other composers. Missing parts have been recomposed for three Monteverdi madrigals that Notari arranged as trios with continuo. The supporting materials significantly expand our knowledge of Notari’s biography, particularly his emigration to England and his important role at the Stuart court, where he was an important exponent of the Italian stile moderno. Clear and convincing arguments are made for attributions and other editorial choices, and sources are comprehensively described and illustrated with plates. This edition contributes significantly to historical scholarship on music in seventeenth-century England, and offers musicians valuable evidence of performing practices in the early modern period.”
Congratulations Jo.
