Interactive Media students win awards at Immerse UK awards 2023
Two students who are currently studying on our BSc Interactive Media programme recently won awards for their work at the Immerse UK awards. The Immerse UK awards is a competition for UK students to showcase innovative experiences or projects for the XR industry.
Edmund Wei won Best UX and UI Design for his project to create an accessible and engaging all-in-one museum guide for the National Railway Museum. He has used the latest web-based technologies including ED and AR. Edmund was also one of two Grand Prize Winners and was offered an internship role with Edify as part of his prize which he will start this summer.

Elliot Mann was shortlisted as a finalist in the Best Overall category with his project ‘Sandboard’. The project is a PC VR sand surfing and grappling game. Martin McDonnell, CEO & Co-Founder of Edify & Sublime tweeted, “Edmund and Elliot were stars amongst a field of 10 top notch finalists at the @ImmerseUK_ Student awards final this week. Over the moon to have Edmund join us this summer as an intern and really hope we stay connected with Elliot and his awesome sand surfing game too!”
Both Elliot and Edmund were also interns for XR Stories. Elliot worked as a creative technician where he supported tech demos, masterclasses and also learnt how to use a range of XR technologies. Edmund worked in the cultural sector working closely with York Civic Trust to develop a prototype AR experience for visitors exploring the blue plaques around the city.
Jonathan Hook, Programme Leader for the Interactive Media course said "We're all exceptionally proud of Edmund and Elliot for their success at the ImmerseUK awards! They are true rising stars who admirably represent the community of talented new professionals that we're lucky to be able to teach and mentor each day on York's Interactive Media BSc."
