Distanced Deviations: An Online Programme of Music and Sound Recording Events
Staff on our BA in Music and Sound Recording have put together a programme of events in which they share their passion for music technology.
Distanced Deviations is open to all students and no previous experience or expertise is required. The sessions will take place on each Friday of Spring Term and last 60-90 minutes. The majority of the sessions will be live, but some might be pre-recorded or streamed.
Workshops (weeks 2, 4, 6, 8, 10)
Half of the sessions will be workshops. Staff and postgraduate students will showcase working methods and interesting creative techniques. Topics to be covered include artificial intelligence, modular synthesis, working with minimal home setups (a must during lockdown), music-visualiser creation and possibly a scrap-heap-challenge style event.
Against the Clock (weeks 3, 5, 7, 9)
The other half of the sessions will comprise ‘Against The Clock’ challenges (the format is inspired by the FACT magazine) in which staff and postgraduate students will attempt to build an entire track in 60 minutes! In contrast to FACT’s version, the contestants will be incorporating short breaks so that participants have the opportunity to ask questions.
