Event details

First written by Irish Playwright Lady Augusta Gregory in 1912, The Bogie Men has its UK premiere, over 100 years later, at the University of York!

Set against the backdrop of The Great Famine and written in the tumultuous decade before the Irish Civil War, The Bogie Men is a comedic story about “two harmless drifty lads” who unexpectedly meet at a coach stop in rural Galway. The two men are almost indistinguishably similar, but soon find out they have more than enough to argue about.

This production includes a new prologue written by Katie Leckey, based on the letters and diaries of Lady Gregory, with the intent of shining a light on a woman who’s name and vast body of work has been largely left out of the history books.
