Event details

This session will explore the 'spaces' in which contemporary music practices can or might take place. Questions might include: Where is there space 'for' contemporary practice? How does the choice of context shape or change practice? How are practitioners active as curators of their own performances (rather than responding to contexts defined by others)? How does the choice of space impact audience behaviour (and what extent can we predict or manipulate that behaviour)?

York music PhD students, Loré Lixenberg and Naomi Perera, will make brief presentations on some of the issues, drawing on examples of relevant creative projects, before leading an open discussion.
