There will be information about how international co-productions, diverse creative teams, and audience expectations shape the representation of cultural stories in the film industry.

The director will also mention ideas of funding sources available for filmmaking as well as the challenges and opportunities associated with securing funding for independent and diverse film projects.

On Wednesday 26th February 2025, Director/Producer Harry Richards will present a screening of his 10-minute British Film Institute (BFI)-selected short film, Santi, followed by a talk exploring the intersection of globalisation and filmmaking. In the  session, Richards will use his experiences making Santi and the process of developing it into a feature film, to examine how international co-productions, diverse creative teams, and audience expectations influence the representation of cultural narratives within the film industry.

Additionally, the director will touch on funding sources available for filmmaking, as well as the challenges and opportunities involved in securing financing for independent and diverse film projects.

The short follows a young Colombian man who receives a voice message from home while grappling with cultural differences at a London dinner party with his new English girlfriend. It was screened at the BFI Southbank as one of 50 films selected from over 1,000 submissions for the BFI Future Film Festival and at the inaugural Kingston International Film Festival in June. It is now being developed into a 90-minute feature film set between the UK and Colombia. The film is being made by the UK production company Headrush Films, which Harry co-founded, in partnership with production and post-production companies in Colombia.
