Event details

“Love. Everyone thinks love is the greatest force in the cosmos and it isn’t you know.”

It’s 2008, and the Large Hadron Collider, humankind’s most ambitious attempt to understand how the universe began, is about to go online for the first time.
Alice is a scientist at CERN and embarking on the most exciting work of her life: searching for the Higgs Boson particle and seeking to understand the fundamental forces of the universe.
Jenny is Alice’s sister. She lives in Luton, sells medical insurance over the phone, and her constant fears around the MMR vaccine are sending her spiralling.
Lucy Kirkwood’s Mosquitoes follows the lives of a family thrown together by tragedy, while the scientific world stands at the brink of a discovery that could plunge the whole world into chaos. Kirkwood explores the debate between science and instinct, and questions whether love truly is the strongest force in the universe.
