York School of Architecture leads creative and inventive research in human and social aspects of architecture, spatial practice, urban culture, post conflict cities and virtual architecture. From ancient cities and historic architecture to contemporary design and sustainable future, our research is challenge-led, impactful and global.
Our research nurtures original ideas and novel methodologies. It promotes community participation and empowers equality, diversity and inclusion as key ethos of good research. We link theory to practice and explain architecture through human actors, social networks and cultural practices.
Our focus on creativity and innovation is an inherent part of the School’s research culture and identity. Our research is challenge-led, impact-focused and strives for novel methodologies that link theory to practice and building to its environments. Academic colleagues lead research projects that are diverse in scope and broad in their global outreach.
