Solange Bohling
Digital Archives Assistant

Profile

Biography

Solange started working with the Archaeology Data Service (ADS) as an intern in 2023. She completed the MSc Digital Archaeology programme at the University of York in 2023 with a dissertation that investigated how digital repositories can responsibly disseminate digital bioarchaeological data depicting human remains. She joined the ADS as a Digital Archives Assistant in July 2024 and is particularly interested in the creation of web interfaces that allow for better contextualisation of archaeological individuals excavated as part of large historical cemeteries.

Solange has a research background in bioarchaeology (MSc Human Osteology and Palaeopathology and PhD from the University of Bradford) with a particular interest in physical impairment and disability in the past as well as the use of archaeology to promote positive social change today. Solange hopes to combine her bioarchaeology and digital heritage skillsets to facilitate re-use of bioarchaeological data and skeletal collections in order to answer broader and nationally relevant research questions.
