Postdoctoral Research Associate (ADS)

Biography

Sarah joined the Archaeology Data Service in 2025 to provide research and project management support across major European cultural heritage infrastructure projects, including ARTEMIS, AUTOMATA and ECHOES.

Prior to commencing this role, Sarah worked as a postdoctoral researcher on several digital heritage projects relating to the history of science and technology. These include Tools of Knowledge (National Museums Scotland) and Congruence Engine (Science Museum), as well as an Open Societal Challenge to evaluate tools developed through the Pelagios Network (Open University). Her roles on these projects incorporated elements such as ontology development, data modelling, digital annotation, and citizen science.

Sarah completed her PhD in 2022 at the Open University, funded by the AHRC through the Consortium for the Humanities and Arts South-east England (CHASE). Her thesis investigated the usability of Linked Data tools and resources for Ancient World research and emphasised human, social and institutional factors, rather than approaching the topic as a purely technical problem.

Before returning to study, Sarah worked at the University of Cambridge in a variety of roles involving libraries, repository management, and digital project management. Her previous qualifications include MA Electronic Communication and Publishing (University College London), as well as MA Archaeological Research and BA (Hons.) Ancient History and Archaeology (both University of Nottingham).
