Biography

James joined the ADS in March 2025 in the role of a Digital Archive Assistant. Before taking up this role, James completed a PhD at the University of York under the White Rose College of the Arts & Humanities (WRoCAH) doctoral training program. His research focused on utilising stable isotope and zooarchaeological analyses to investigate medieval and post-medieval domestic dog populations across Britain.

Prior to his PhD, James attained an MSci in Archaeology at the University of Central Lancashire, before studying an MSc degree in Zooarchaeology at the University of York. James also has experience of research-project-led field archaeology, having attended a number of excavations during his studies, and later working as a site supervisor for the Ribchester Revisited Project.
