Scotland's
First Settlers-
The shellfish and crab remains
from the Mesolithic rockshelter at Sand, Applecross, have been analysed
as part of the Scotland’s First Settlers project (http://www.moray.ac.uk/ccs/settlers.htm)
in collaboration with Dr Karen Hardy and Caroline Wickham-Jones (see
also Antiquity paper). As well as excavating the site of Sand, the Inner
Sound coastline was surveyed and a further 164 hitherto unknown sites
were found. Thirty-eight of these sites were test-pitted producing further
information of past human use. The molluscs from these sites have also
been analysed.
