Jersey Heritage

Since 2017 the department has worked in partnership with Jersey Heritage at Elizabeth Castle. Annual field schools of staff and student volunteers have covered geophysics, excavation, archival research, building recording, digital archaeology, conservation, and public engagement. These field schools have provided valuable experience for students, while also providing detailed evidence and advice to Jersey Heritage to inform the future management, conservation and visitor interpretation of the site. From Victorian hospitals, to lost abbeys, early barracks blocks and WW2 defences, we are helping Jersey Heritage find complex new stories to tell about Elizabeth Castle.
