Student placements at York Minster
PG students recording York Minster's medieval west doorway
Three MA Historic Buildings students (Allyson Butler, Nancy Michaud & Abby Zhang) have just completed a placement at York Minster with alumnus Luke Snell (now Digital Surveyor to York Minster).
The students undertook a project to find, photograph and catalogue the medieval stonework of the Minster's west doorway, which have been in storage since the doorway was re-carved 20 years ago.
Now that the original stonework has been identified, future student placements will look to digitally record each carved stone, allowing for the C14th doorway to be virtually reconstructed.
Well done to all involved! It's great to have these collaborations between students and heritage bodies across the city.
