Digital Archiving Assistant

This is a virtual internship opportunity, hosted by the Department of Archaeology and will involve working remotely alongside Prof. Dawn Hadley, Professor of Medieval Archaeology.

The project is focused on preparing a digital archive for deposition with the Archaeology Data Service hosted by the Department of Archaeology. The archive relates to excavations conducted between 1968 and 1980 at the Tudor hunting lodge in the deer park of Sheffield, South Yorkshire. The excavations were conducted by Sheffield City Museum and the archival material have been scanned but have not been catalogued in an appropriate manner to enable them to be submitted to ADS. This project will enable the digital archive to be used in future for student dissertations and research projects.

Zooarchaeological Symphonies

The research project ‘Zooarchaeological Symphonies’, will be led by Dr Colleen Morgan, Lecturer in Digital Archaeology and Heritage, and bridges two important fields within the department; Digital archaeology and Bioarchaeology. The project aims to creatively investigate ways to use our archaeological datasets to produce new questions about the past as well as make this data more accessible to multiple audiences. The intended project output is to have two audio compositions that are informed by archaeological data on faunal remains and a publication.
