Lu Cooke working with fellow earth building experts and researchers Franziska Knoll, Maria Pastor Quiles and Claire-Anne de Chazelles has produced a glossary on traditional earth building techniques in four languages – English, Spanish, French and German.
Earth as building material is extremely versatile and has been used for construction for at least the last 12 millenia, today 30–40% of the global population still live in earthen buildings. This small booklet aims to provide an overview of earth building techniques recorded in both archaeological and recent vernacular contexts.
A digital copy of 'On Cob Balls, Adobe and Daubed Straw Plaits - A glossary on traditional earth building techniques for walls in four languages' is now available to download from the Sachsen-Anhalt State Office for Heritage Management and Archaeology.
