MEDICINE project in Edinburgh
York researchers present a paper at the 1st World Congress on Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Health
Postdoctoral researcher and our Head of Department John Schofield have recently returned from the 1st World Congress on Migration, Ethnicity, Race and Health in Edinburgh where they presented a paper on the EU-funded MEDICINE project.
Participating in this major international congress represents a significant landmark in a project that seeks to demonstrate the relevance of traditional healthcare practices in an increasingly mobile world. John Schofield describes this as "heritage on the front line—exploring traditional life ways and demonstrating their significance now and in the future, amongst some of the most vulnerable and disorientated people in our society."
Elizabeth Currie says: "It has been a privilege to represent the University of York and the indigenous peoples of the Andes at this major landmark international congress and feel a part of the critical process that seeks to find innovative new ways of addressing the emergent social and migrant crises of our times."
