Job Opportunity—Lecturer in Palaeoproteomics

The Department of Archaeology seeks to appoint an established or developing researcher in the growing field of ancient proteins to answer questions about the human past as a full-time lecturer. You will join BioArCh, a world leading team for ancient biomolecules research and benefit from recent investment in laboratories, infrastructure and technical support in this area. Your research interests could include palaeoproteomic approaches for the analysis of ancient humans, animals, plants or microorganisms to address archaeological questions. You will have access to our dedicated laboratories for clean working, sample preparation and processing, you will be supported by a technician and benefit from our bioinformatics facility. You will have the opportunity to lead the cluster of post-graduate and postdoctoral researchers undertaking biomolecular analysis in this area. 

The main responsibilities include undertaking world class high impact research and leadership in the field of ancient biomolecules, developing and delivering high quality undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and undertaking pastoral and administrative responsibilities effectively.

You will have a postgraduate degree in biological sciences, chemistry or archaeology, or equivalent experience and a PhD in the application of molecular methods within archaeology. You will have a growing body of high quality research publications in the application of proteomics to the study of the human past and the ability to attract major research funding. At least two of your publications should be expected to be judged as world leading (4*) or internationally excellent (3*) in the 2021 research excellence framework.

You will possess extensive knowledge of biomolecular archaeology and be able to teach biomolecular research to archaeologists and particularly their relevance to archaeological questions/topics/issues. You should have some prior experience of teaching and learning in HE at undergraduate or postgraduate level or in a similar context. You should also hold an appropriate academic professional and teaching qualification or be willing to complete the Postgraduate Certificate in Academic Practice.

You will have advanced and specialist IT knowledge and highly developed communication skills to engage with a wide ranging audience. You will be able to supervise the work of others, for example as an MSc, PhD or postdoctoral supervisor. Finally it is essential that you have a collaborative and collegiate ethos.
