Event details

John Schofield’s new book, Wicked Problems for Archaeologists: Heritage as Transformative Practice, was published by Oxford University Press in May 2024. As Professor Brian Head (University of Queensland) said, with this book, ‘John Schofield may just have redefined the true purpose of archaeology.’

A Wicked Problems’ book launch is being held in the Huntingdon Room at King’s Manor on Friday 27 September, from 4 pm to 6.30 pm (and afterwards at the Eagle and Child). The event will include short talks by Professor Nicky Milner (Head of Archaeology, University of York), Neil Redfern (Executive Director of the Council for British Archaeology) and Professor Bob Doherty (Dean of the School for Business and Society, University of York). John will also say a few words, including reading some short extracts from the book.

A reception will follow the talks, with drinks and nibbles.

Flyers will be available at the event to purchase the book for a reduced price, and inspection copies will be available.

The event is free, but please reserve a place to avoid disappointment.

NB - for those attending, please be sure to arrive in good time. The event will start promptly at 4 pm.

The event will be streamed via Zoom for anyone attending online.
